Residents in Thorpe St Andrew, Norfolk, are being asked to donate essential food and hygiene products following an urgent appeal from the local foodbank on January 27, 2026. The call for help comes after a busy winter period left storage shelves low on everyday items like long-life milk and toothpaste.
Organisers at the Norwich Foodbank say they specifically need long-life juice, tinned meat, and desserts like rice pudding or custard. A full list of current shortages is also tracked by Give Food, which shows a major lack of toiletries including shower gel, shampoo, and deodorant.
Local collection points have been set up at the Rivergreen Pantry on Yarmouth Road and the Sainsbury’s on Pound Lane. The Thorpe St Andrew Town Council also helps manage a community fridge that provides open-access food to help residents and reduce local waste.
People using the foodbank need to present a foodbank voucher issued by a frontline agency — for example, a GP, Citizens Advice, or a local school. According to the Trussell Trust, these vouchers help ensure that emergency support reaches the people who need it most during difficult financial times.
