Torquay in Devon is expected to face travel disruption on Sunday 1 March 2026 as heavy rain and 40mph wind gusts hit the coastal town. The Met Office predicts a 95 per cent chance of heavy downpours between 4:00 AM and 8:00 AM.

Strong winds coming from the south-south-west are forecast to peak at 40mph throughout the morning and afternoon. These conditions may cause waves to wash over the sea wall, which often leads to the closure of the A379 seafront road between Wheatridge Lane and Belgrave Road.

The unsettled weather arrives near a full moon, which means the area will experience spring tides. These higher tides increase the risk of sea spray and flooding on local promenades and coastal paths.

Drivers and bus passengers should prepare for potential diversions to Stagecoach services, including the 12, 22, and Gold routes, if the seafront is closed. Coastal walkers and boat owners are advised to check local harbour notices due to the risk of squally winds and hazardous water.
