The Met Office has extended a yellow weather warning for heavy rain in Torquay, Devon, now in effect until 9:00pm on Friday 6 February 2026, after a slow-moving system stalled over the area and is expected to keep rain falling through the evening commute.

The Met Office warns drivers to expect heavy spray and surface flooding on major routes, including the A380 South Devon Highway and the Torquay seafront. Torbay Council’s Level 2 Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (2010) and recent local authority advice note that a high-tide window could allow waves to splash over the sea wall at Torre Abbey Sands, which could make walking or driving nearby dangerous.

South West Water says its WaterFit Live service monitors storm overflows and bathing-water quality at local beaches; heavy rainfall can cause storm overflows to operate at locations such as Meadfoot Beach and Beacon Cove. Storm overflows form part of the sewer network and may discharge excess water during intense storms to prevent sewage backing up into properties.

Residents are advised to monitor conditions via the GOV.UK Check for Flooding service and official Met Office updates. Local officials are urging people to avoid the seafront and take extra care on the roads until the weather clears later tonight.
