Torquay United Women maintained their position at the top of the league after securing a late 1-1 draw against Forest Green Rovers in Newton Abbot, Devon. Midfielder Tee Kaptein scored an equaliser in the 89th minute on Sunday, 22 March 2026, to rescue a point for the home side at the ground known as The Rec.

The visitors took the lead during first-half stoppage time when captain Hattie Jones scored following a tussle for the ball with Torquay goalkeeper Esme Bradley. Despite protests from the Torquay players that Bradley had already safely caught the ball with both hands, the goal was allowed to stand and the team trailed for most of the second half.

The result means the team remains unbeaten this season in the Shield Services Group South West Regional Women’s Football League Premier Division. Manager Ryan Perks, who joined the club in July 2025, saw his team stay four points clear of second-placed Sherborne with two games in hand.

Goalscorer Tee Kaptein returned to the club for the 2025/26 season and has been a key part of the squad that recently became officially part of the main Torquay United Football Club. Captain Lucy Palmer led the team through the match, which was held at the home of Newton Abbot Spurs where tickets cost four pounds for adults.

While Forest Green Rovers stay in third place, they also remain unbeaten and have three games in hand over the league leaders. This draw keeps the race for promotion to the FA Women’s National League South West in Torquay’s own hands as the season continues.
