Torquay police arrested four people on 6 and 7 February 2026 during a targeted operation to disrupt street-level drug dealing and improve community safety in Torquay, Torbay (Devon). Officers concentrated on the town centre, including the Castle Circus district, Union Street and the harbourside, as part of the first Operation Harbourlight of 2026. The operation was launched to address local concerns about antisocial behaviour and to reassure residents that illegal activity will not be tolerated.

Three men and one woman were taken into custody on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A and Class B drugs (reported as cocaine and cannabis). According to Devon & Cornwall Police, the team used plain-clothes patrols and stop-and-search tactics during the operation. Local reporting said the activity forms part of a wider crackdown on drug activity that has recently led to a number of successful arrests.

The work is part of the wider Street Focus: Torquay programme, a partnership between the police, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and Torbay Council to make the town centre safer for residents and businesses. That partnership is backed by a £1 million Home Office grant secured by the Police and Crime Commissioner to support hotspot policing and increased patrols in the town centre.

Inspector Rob Harvey, head of the Torquay Neighbourhood Police Team, said: “We want to show the community that we take drug offences very seriously and want to reassure residents and visitors of Torquay that we will be proactive. Drug dealing is not a victimless crime.” Local officers are also asking people to take part in the “Safer Night Out” survey, which closes on 28 February, to help identify where people feel unsafe and how the teams should prioritise activity for the rest of the year.

Extra officers have been patrolling the town recently to provide a more visible presence and discourage offending. These additional patrols are part of the national Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity to police to help shape future operations. As of 8 February 2026, the four suspects remained in custody pending further enquiries and no formal charges had been announced.
