A pedestrian died after a collision with a Stagecoach bus on Hele Road in Torquay on Friday 19 June, Devon & Cornwall Police have confirmed. Officers were alerted to the scene, just outside the Farmfoods supermarket, at around 10:20am.

Despite the immediate response from police, ambulance crews, and the fire service, the woman—a Torquay resident in her 60s—was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed. No other injuries were reported. The collision involved a Stagecoach bus.

Hele Road remained closed in both directions for most of the day while officers from the Roads Policing Team examined the area. The cordon was lifted and the road reopened shortly after 8pm that evening. Stagecoach said it was “fully cooperating with the authorities,” adding: “We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the individual involved.”

Police are now urging anyone who witnessed the collision, or who was driving in the area and has dash camera footage, to come forward. Witnesses can contact the force online or by calling 101, quoting reference number 50260157406.

The collision is one of several serious road traffic incidents reported across Devon and Cornwall over the weekend of 19–22 June, with the force also responding to crashes near Fowey, Exeter, St Austell, and Stoke Cannon.
