Torquay Girls’ Grammar School in Devon has been praised for its exceptionally strong safeguarding culture following an independent two-day review completed on 26 February 2026. The external assessment found that a clear sense of student well-being runs through every level of the institution, from the trustees and school leaders to the staff and pupils.

Students in Key Stages 4 and 5 reported that bullying at the school is extremely rare, with some pupils telling reviewers they had never witnessed or experienced it during their time there. The review also highlighted the support provided to students with special educational needs and disabilities as a specific area of strength and inclusion.

This recognition follows the launch of the Torbay Charter in January 2026, a student-led initiative designed to protect young women from harassment in the workplace. The project was developed by pupils who worked alongside Steve Darling MP to create a 10-point agreement for local employers to follow.

Headteacher Sarah Forster noted that the findings reflect the school’s focus on equality and student welfare. The school, which was rated as outstanding in every category by Ofsted in November 2023, continues to be recognised for its high standards of care and academic performance in the local community.
