Patients at Torbay Hospital in Torquay, Devon, will see their medical information shared more easily when a new digital record system launches on Friday 3 April 2026. The Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is moving to a single electronic system that brings together hundreds of separate paper and digital files into one secure place.

The new system, provided by a company called Epic Systems, allows doctors, nurses, and other staff to see a person’s full medical history and test results instantly. This change is designed to speed up care and stop patients from having to repeat the same information to different healthcare teams.

Local residents will also be able to use a new smartphone app and online service called MY CARE to look at their own health information. This portal allows patients to check their appointment dates, read clinical correspondence, and see their recent test results from their own devices.

This project is part of the One Devon programme, which aims to connect healthcare across the whole county. Devon is set to become the only county in England where every major hospital trust uses the same record-keeping software.

The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is already using the system, and the University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is due to join them in July 2026. Professor Adrian Harris, Chief Medical Officer and Senior Responsible Owner, from the programme described the move as one of the most significant changes to local healthcare in a generation.
