A 39-year-old man appeared at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on February 11, 2026, charged with the attempted murder of a female police officer in Newton Abbot. Guy Pottle was arrested following an incident at a home on Drake Road shortly after midnight on February 10, 2026.

According to Devon and Cornwall Police, officers were responding to reports of an assault on a woman. During the call, a female police constable was attacked and taken to the hospital; she has since been discharged.

Pottle faces charges of attempted murder and assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH) in relation to the initial victim at the property. The case has drawn significant local interest as Pottle was previously convicted of manslaughter in 2018 following a fatal “one-punch” attack on Exeter High Street.

The defendant has been remanded in custody following his court appearance this week. He is scheduled to appear at Exeter Crown Court for a further hearing on March 12, 2026.
