Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, will host a stage version of the famous baking television competition this summer at the local community theatre. The Great British Bake Off Musical is set to run from 1–4 July 2026 at the Cecil Hepworth Playhouse.
Bridges Musical Theatre is producing the show, which organisers say offers residents a chance to see a West End–originated musical locally without travelling into London. The production will feature evening performances throughout its four-day run; matinee details are still to be confirmed.
The musical previously played in the West End at the Noël Coward Theatre in 2023. Music Theatre International (MTI) Europe acquired and released amateur/regional licensing rights in early 2025, enabling regional groups to stage the show. The book and lyrics are by Jake Brunger and the music and lyrics by Pippa Cleary; the authors have described the show as celebrating the warmth and charm of the original television series.
This event is a significant moment for the Cecil Hepworth Playhouse, which was saved from closure when a charitable trust took on day-to-day management in 2023. According to the Theatres Trust and venue heritage documentation, the building has a long history and was originally part of Cecil Hepworth’s early film studios—one of the country’s first indoor studios.
Because the Playhouse normally seats up to 156 (some listings round this to about 160), ticket demand is expected to be high given the venue’s limited capacity. The show is intended to provide family entertainment while supporting local businesses by bringing more visitors to the town centre in the evenings.
