From 31 March 2026, Elmbridge Borough Council is expanding the list of items that can be recycled from homes in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey. This update means residents can place more household waste directly into their blue-lidded kerbside bins.
The council will now accept empty aerosol cans, juice and soup cartons, and clean plastic plant pots that are not black. Residents can also recycle empty squeezy metal and plastic tubes, including those used for items like toothpaste and tomato puree.
To prepare these items for collection, people must rinse out all cartons and remove the lids before putting them in the bin. Correct preparation ensures that the waste can be processed efficiently through existing kerbside facilities.
These changes are designed to make recycling more convenient by reducing the need for residents to make separate trips to community recycling centres. By adding these items to the regular collection list, the local authority hopes to increase the amount of waste that is recycled across the borough.
This expansion is part of a broader effort by the council to simplify recycling for local households. The new rules apply to all properties in the area that currently use the kerbside bin collection service.
