Residents in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, may experience internet and landline outages as engineers begin planned phone-line works in the Walton South area. The upgrades are scheduled for Colne Drive and Severn Drive from Friday 6 February 2026 through Tuesday 10 February 2026.

Engineers (primarily from Openreach, with other providers such as Virgin Media O2 potentially involved) will be replacing ageing copper lines with full-fibre (FTTP) connections to provide faster and more reliable broadband and phone services for the community. The work has been permitted by Surrey County Council’s streetworks team, which says traffic controls such as multi-way signals may be used while engineers access underground chambers and, where required, work on overhead drops.

The work is expected to cause short, planned interruptions to home broadband and landline services during the five-day period. To reduce the impact on people who work from home, crews plan to continue tasks through the weekend to complete the work as quickly as possible.

Local officials advise residents who rely on a steady internet connection to make contingency plans before the work begins on Friday. Options include using mobile phone data or visiting local places with public Wi‑Fi, such as Walton Library or cafes in The Heart Shopping Centre.

Business customers with service-level agreements are encouraged to check whether they have a backup mobile data device (for example, a 4G/5G dongle) provided by their supplier, and to test it ahead of the works. Residents are also advised to download large files or any important documents before Friday, 6 February 2026, to avoid disruption during the planned outages.
