Residents in Walton-On-Thames, Surrey, are being asked to check their new bin collection dates after local authorities released a fresh 2026 calendar to address recent missed pickups. The Elmbridge Borough Council issued the update this month to help stabilise services across the area. These changes follow a series of vehicle breakdowns and access problems that have left bins unemptied in several local streets.
The local waste partnership, Joint Waste Solutions, reported that some collection routes were not completed as recently as February 12, 2026, due to blocked access. Similar issues occurred throughout January and February because of vehicle maintenance problems. These disruptions have affected general rubbish and recycling collections for many households in Walton-On-Thames.
Households are also being reminded that the renewal period for the garden waste subscription will open on February 27, 2026. Residents are encouraged to use the council’s online portal immediately to confirm their specific days for food waste and other refuse. Checking the new dates is intended to prevent further waste from building up outside homes, which has been a recurring problem recently.
The current ten-year contract with the service provider, Amey, is now in its final stages. A formal search for a new waste provider is expected to begin in March 2026. This move comes as the council looks to improve the reliability of waste collections before the existing agreement officially ends in 2027.
