The Walton-on-Thames Bowling Club has launched a series of drop-in Tuesday sessions throughout February 2026 to help residents stay active and meet their neighbours. These weekly, no-booking sessions are taking place at the Elm Grove Recreation Ground in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey.
According to the club’s event listings, the sessions do not require prior booking or registration. The club provides all necessary equipment and offers basic coaching on the day so people can try lawn bowls for the first time without needing to buy their own gear.
The 104-year-old club (founded in 1922), which is affiliated to Bowls England, is using the initiative to recruit new members for the 2026 season. Club leaders hope that demonstrating high community interest will help their campaign to keep the green after Elmbridge Borough Council entered discussions with NHS partners about the future use of part of Elm Grove Recreation Ground for a proposed local health hub.
The sessions are designed to be social rather than competitive to make the sport more approachable for people of all ages. Residents can visit the green on Hersham Road every Tuesday in February to take part in the activities.
Notes for editors: The club’s public materials and local event listings describe these as ‘Open Tuesdays’ or ‘Tuesday roll-ups’; a Research Dossier supplied to this fact-check used the name ‘Turn-Up Tuesdays.’ At the time of checking, the exact phrase ‘Turn-Up Tuesdays’ was not found on the club’s publicly accessible website or other online listings.
