The Walton-on-Thames Library in Surrey has been integrated into the Surrey Libraries 2026 programme, part of a county-wide plan to transform libraries into modern community hubs. The branch was recently recognised in the Community Libraries Network awards (2025) in the Community Hub category for its work hosting local groups and providing digital support to residents.

Residents can take part in a series of events tied to National Storytelling Week. Walton’s scheduled children’s storytelling performances — ‘Heads and Tails’ with two shows on Saturday 7 February 2026 at 10:00 and 11:30 — are listed on the Surrey Libraries events page. Booking is essential and tickets are donation-based (minimum suggested £2 per person).

Surrey’s modernisation strategy aims to broaden library services into one-stop community hubs. As part of the 2026 programme, the county rolled out specialist health services — including short-term loans of blood pressure monitors during Health Information Week (19–25 January 2026) — alongside other community offers. Walton also works with the Elmbridge Eco Hub on a local ‘Library of Things’ that lets residents borrow tools and equipment.

Walton is featured in Surrey’s ‘Top 10’ events campaign and is located on the second floor of The Heart shopping centre (54 Hepworth Way, KT12 1GH). Surrey County Council is piloting technologies such as ‘Open Plus’ at selected sites to enable registered members to access libraries during extended hours; council materials do not confirm publicly whether Walton has been fitted with Open Plus in 2026, so that specific claim should not be stated without council confirmation.
