Residents in Walton-on-Thames are set for a week of warm, sunny weather, though those with hay fever are being urged to take precautions as a very high pollen alert has been issued for the area. According to the Met Office, temperatures will climb from 15°C on Monday to reach a peak of 23°C by Wednesday.

While the mild temperatures provide an opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities, the warm, settled conditions have triggered a red alert for pollen across London and the South East. Birch and ash pollen levels are expected to be very high throughout the week. Allergy UK notes that more than 10 million people across the country suffer from hay fever, which can cause symptoms such as sneezing, runny noses, and itchy eyes.

The charity warns that managing these symptoms is important, as unaddressed hay fever can lead to the development or worsening of asthma, which in some cases may result in serious attacks. Birch pollen season typically peaks during April and May, making this a particularly active time for those with allergies.

The pleasant conditions are expected to shift by Thursday, which carries a 40 per cent chance of rain and wind gusts reaching up to 32mph. Temperatures are also forecast to drop to around 18°C. This more unsettled weather is likely to continue through the weekend, with cooler temperatures of 14°C to 15°C and a continued chance of rain.
