Residents in Warrington are being encouraged to attend a series of free blood pressure drop-in sessions taking place across the borough from 17 to 24 April 2026. The initiative, organised by Warrington Borough Council and local health partners, aims to help people identify undiagnosed high blood pressure, a condition that often presents no symptoms but can lead to serious health issues.

Health officials estimate that around one in three adults in Warrington may be living with undiagnosed high blood pressure. Nationally, more than five million people in England are thought to have the condition without knowing it. Because high blood pressure is often called the silent killer due to its lack of obvious symptoms, experts warn that it significantly increases the risk of stroke, heart attack, and kidney disease if left untreated.

Councillor Maureen McLaughlin, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Social Care, said that while the sessions are open to everyone, she particularly encourages residents aged 40 and over to take advantage of the opportunity. The drop-in sessions are being held at various locations throughout North and South Warrington, including family hubs, libraries, leisure centres, and the Living Well Hub on Horsemarket Street.

These sessions are part of the broader Living Well Warrington programme, which is a partnership involving the council, local National Health Service trusts, and voluntary organisations. Residents can also continue to access blood pressure checks at most pharmacies and through GP surgeries as part of regular health checks for adults aged 40 to 74. For those who prefer to monitor their health at home, low-cost home testing monitors are available to purchase for around £20.
