The National Trust has announced a new Easter trail and egg hunt at Washington Old Hall in Tyne and Wear for the upcoming bank holiday weekend. Between April 3 and April 6, 2026, local families can visit the historic manor to take part in nature-themed activities and traditional holiday games.

The event will run daily from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm and includes ten activity stations spread across the site’s 17th-century gardens. Visitors can buy a trail pack for £3.50, which comes with a chocolate egg or a dairy-free alternative once the activities are finished.

The manor is famously known as the ancestral home of George Washington, the first president of the United States, and features historic areas like the nuttery and the parterre. According to Wikipedia, the site was saved from being knocked down in 1936 and has been looked after by the National Trust since 1957.

While most of the activities take place outdoors, visitors should note that only the ground floor of the hall is fully accessible for those with mobility issues. The AccessAble guide for the property states that while there is a garden lift, the first floor can only be reached by a steep set of stairs.

According to GOV.UK, the trail coincides with the official Easter bank holiday weekend, starting on Good Friday. Standard admission fees still apply for those who are not members of the National Trust.
