The National Trust is recruiting local volunteers to help run the upcoming Easter celebrations at Washington Old Hall in Washington Village, Tyne and Wear. The historic site will host its annual family activity trail and Easter egg hunt from 3 April 2026 to 6 April 2026 (11:00–15:00 each day).

People who sign up will help manage the trail, assist children with crafts and games, and support prize distribution — the event ticket includes a dairy, vegan or allergy-friendly ‘Free From’ chocolate egg for participants. These volunteer roles are intended to support the site’s staff during the busy bank-holiday weekend; a 2015 visitor review on the North East Family Fun blog described the visitor experience at the hall’s Easter activities.

The recruitment coincides with the National Trust’s ‘Memories of Washington Old Hall: Seventy Years, One Community’ pop-up display (9 Feb–23 Mar 2026), which commemorates the hall’s restoration and opening to visitors in 1955 (the building officially opened on 28 September 1955). The manor was once the home of George Washington’s ancestors and was saved from demolition in the 1930s by local residents led by headmaster Frederick Hill; funds were raised to purchase the hall in 1937 and it was later transferred to the National Trust in 1956.

Those interested can sign up through the National Trust’s official volunteering pages, which explain available roles and provide induction and training for new recruits. Britain Express and other local and heritage guides note the property’s American connections and its appeal to visitors from both the UK and the United States.
