Residents aged 50 and over can now take part in a new weekly dance workshop at Arts Centre Washington in Tyne and Wear. The sessions, called Dance Your Heart Out, are designed to help older people stay active and meet new friends through gentle movement and music.
The classes take place every Saturday morning from 9:30am to 11:00am at the centre on Biddick Lane. The programme began in early January 2026 as part of the Arts Centre’s Spring 2026 season and offers a low‑impact way for residents to improve their balance and coordination.
Managed by Sunderland Culture, the workshops are led by professional movement instructors who focus on what each person is comfortably able to do. The initiative aligns with Sunderland City Council’s Active Sunderland healthy‑lifestyles work, which encourages locals to find creative ways to improve their wellbeing.
Organisers say the social side of the event is just as important as the exercise, with participants often staying for a coffee together after the 90‑minute session. Anyone interested in joining can sign up through the venue box office or via the Arts Centre Washington / Sunderland Culture website.
