Residents in Watford, Hertfordshire, are being told to prepare for a sharp drop in temperatures starting on Wednesday, 25 March 2026. The Met Office predicts that daytime highs will fall from 15°C on Monday to just 9°C by mid-week.

Heavy rain is forecast to begin on Tuesday evening, 24 March 2026, with a very high chance of downpours starting around 8pm. The Environment Agency has also highlighted a continued risk of flooding from groundwater across parts of Southern England during this period.

Strong wind gusts of up to 39mph are expected on Wednesday, which will make the air feel significantly colder than the actual temperature. While the thermometer may show 9°C, it will feel like 4°C during the day and could feel as cold as -1°C overnight.

Met Office Chief Forecaster Steve Willington said this turn to colder weather is not unusual for March and is typical for the season. This change follows a warm period where the country recorded its warmest day of the year so far on 18 March 2026.
