Watford Football Club is hosting a special event at Vicarage Road on 12 April 2026 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Sir Elton John becoming the club’s chairman. The Legends Stadium Tour will offer fans an opportunity to explore the history of the club and commemorate a transformative era under the guidance of the global music star.

Sir Elton John, who is a lifelong supporter of the club, first took on the role of chairman in 1976. During his initial tenure, which lasted until 1987, the club experienced a period of significant growth. Under the leadership of manager Graham Taylor, the team climbed from the fourth tier of English football to the first. This remarkable rise included a runners-up finish in the First Division during the 1982-83 season and an appearance in the 1984 FA Cup Final.

The upcoming tour will feature former player Ian Bolton, who was brought to the club by Graham Taylor in 1977 for 12,500 pounds. Taylor famously described Bolton as his best ever buy, and the defender became one of only four players to represent the club across all four divisions during its ascent through the leagues.

The event serves as a tribute to the lasting impact Sir Elton John has had on Watford Football Club. Since his first period as chairman, he has served as chairman again from 1997 to 2002 and currently holds the title of Honorary Life President. In recognition of his contributions, the East Stand at the stadium was officially named The Elton John Stand in 2014.

As the club marks this milestone, it continues its campaign in the second tier of English football, known as the EFL Championship, where it is currently competing in its fourth consecutive season. The tour will provide supporters with behind-the-scenes access and stories from a golden era in the club’s history.
