Young football fans in Watford are being asked to donate boots and kits this weekend to help provide essential equipment for children in Nigeria. The collection drive is being led by the Junior Hornets in partnership with the Troost-Ekong Foundation and the Watford FC Community Sports & Education Trust.

The initiative aims to support the mission of former Watford FC captain William Troost-Ekong, who established his foundation in 2024 to empower youth through sport and education. The foundation previously donated kits, boots, and balls to grassroots football academies in Akwa Ibom State in December 2025.

Troost-Ekong, who played for Watford from 2020 to 2023, is a well-known figure at Vicarage Road, having made 68 appearances for the club. Beyond his time in Hertfordshire, he served as captain of the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, and was named the Player of the Tournament at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations before retiring from international football in December 2025.

The Watford FC Community Sports & Education Trust, the club’s official registered charity, is supporting the drive as part of its ongoing work to engage thousands of people through sports and social programmes. Further details on how to contribute to the collection are available through the club’s official channels.
