Northants RiverCare and the Nene Rivers Trust are inviting residents to join a community litter pick at the Northampton Washlands on Thursday 19 March 2026. This event in Northamptonshire is part of a national effort called the Great British Spring Clean, which aims to tidy up local areas and protect wildlife.

People who take part will help clear rubbish and debris from the riverbanks between 10:00 am and 11:30 am. Organisers will provide all the tools and equipment needed for the morning, and the event offers a chance to meet other neighbours interested in the environment.

The area is a key flood storage site used by the Environment Agency to protect homes in Wellingborough and Northampton from rising water. By removing waste that could block the river, volunteers help ensure the local flood management system stays in good working order.

Residents interested in helping to improve local water quality and riverside paths can register their attendance. Bookings are being taken through the Nene Rivers Trust online portal.
