A 20-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of 38-year-old Darren King in Wellingborough. The charge follows a fatal stabbing that took place on Birchfield Road on the afternoon of Sunday, 3 May 2026.

Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 3:05pm on Sunday after reports of a stabbing. Despite the efforts of first responders, Mr. King was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man, also aged 20, was initially arrested in connection with the incident but has since been released with no further action taken against him.

The suspect, Donte King, of Birchfield Road, appeared at Northampton Magistrates’ Court on 5 May 2026. He has been remanded in custody, and a pre-trial hearing is set to take place on 6 May 2026 at Northampton Crown Court.

The family of Darren King released a statement through Northamptonshire Police on 5 May 2026 expressing their grief, stating they are utterly devastated and that there are not enough words to describe how heartbroken they are by the loss.

Detective Inspector Cheryl Thompson, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, is leading the investigation into the death. She described the event as a tragic incident and has appealed for any witnesses or anyone with information regarding the case to contact the police.
