Thirteen more drivers have been sentenced at Northampton Magistrates’ Court following a winter drink and drug driving campaign focused on the Wellingborough area of Northamptonshire.

The hearings, which finished on 4 February 2026, resulted in several driving bans, community orders and fines exceeding £500 in several cases for offences committed between 1 December 2025 and 1 January 2026. The crackdown targeted people driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the busy Christmas and New Year period.

Northamptonshire Police carried out checks on local roads including the A45, Midland Road and Northampton Road, and in nearby villages such as Wilby and Great Doddington. Officers used breath tests and drug wipes as part of intelligence-led stops and post-collision checks.

The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) coordinates Operation Limit — the seasonal campaign designed to reduce road deaths by targeting drink- and drug-driving — and police locally say the campaign is essential to lowering fatalities. In Wellingborough, officers noted a continuing trend of drivers testing positive for more than one substance, including combinations such as alcohol with cannabis or cocaine.
