Pupils at Weavers Academy in Wellingborough will swap blazers and formal shoes for branded PE kit next week as the school relaxes uniform rules in response to a forecast heatwave. Temperatures are expected to reach 30°C, prompting a temporary adjustment to the dress code announced on the school’s website.

Students can attend in full Weavers-branded PE kit for the entire week or wear all-black clothing without logos. The school urged parents to make sure shorts are of a sensible length and that footwear remains appropriate, explicitly ruling out sliders and crocs. “We would appreciate your support in ensuring that your child wears the correct Weavers PE kit,” a school notice read.

The measure follows an earlier hot weather notice on 21 June, when all parents received a text message allowing PE kit for comfort. That day, families were advised to pack plenty of water, sun cream and sun hats for outdoor breaks. The standard uniform normally requires a blazer with badge, school tie, white shirt, black tailored trousers or a regulation checked skirt, and formal black leather shoes—trainers, pumps and boots are banned.

The official PE kit comprises a training jersey, tracksuit top, training shorts and tracksuit bottoms, all bought through Grip Active. In cases where a student lacks the correct kit, the school runs a swap shop and offers financial support to families who apply in writing. Pupils who breach the uniform code are typically placed in reset if the infringement cannot be put right.

Weavers Academy is a non-selective secondary school for 11- to 18-year-olds and belongs to the Creative Education Trust, which ratifies school policies including uniform standards.
