The Wellingborough Eco Group has released its full programme of community activities for 2026, inviting local residents in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, to participate in a variety of environmental and social initiatives.
Operating from the ECO HUB at Swanspool Pavilion, the group offers a range of regular weekly sessions. These include the Happy Café, a Swap Shop for exchanging goods, the Food Sharers programme to reduce waste, and NHS health checks. The group also organises Tuesday Tidy Ups for litter picking and hosts networking events known as Green Drinks, alongside seasonal activities such as the Big Spring Clean.
The organisation, which formally became a community-focused company in January 2025, continues to build on its local impact. In 2024, the ECO HUB supported more than 6,000 people, while the Food Sharers initiative successfully diverted 800 crates of fresh food from disposal. Additionally, the Wellie Wombles, a litter-picking team within the group, have collected over 10,150 bags of rubbish since their formation and educated over 1,000 young people on the importance of keeping the town clean.
Membership is free and open to everyone, allowing residents to vote at general meetings and stand for the committee. The group is led by directors Emma Davies, Tricia Gilyead, Jonathan Hornett, and Judy Sumner. Support for these activities is provided by Greatwell Homes, North Northamptonshire Council, the Co-op, and Wellingborough Town Council, with additional contributions from donations at the Swap Shop.
Beyond its weekly hub activities, the group is involved in wider community efforts such as the Wellingborough Climate Action Project, hosted by Glamis Hall for All, and the Energy Savers project, which helps residents manage their household energy bills in partnership with the Centre for Sustainable Energy.
