Tennis players from across the globe will head to Welwyn Garden City this month as the town prepares to host an international tennis competition for the second year in a row. The tournament, which is part of the International Tennis Federation World Tennis Masters Tour, will take place from 6 April to 12 April 2026.

The event is specifically for players aged 30 and over, with competitors facing off against others in their own age group. These groups are broken down into five-year increments, ranging from 30+ all the way up to 90+. The competition is classified as an MT400 event, which is the third tier out of six grades in the international tour hierarchy managed by the governing body.

Matches will be held on the indoor hard courts at Gosling Sports Park, a major local venue operated by the charitable social enterprise Greenwich Leisure Limited. The tournament is open to the public, and spectators are invited to watch the matches, which typically include singles, doubles, and mixed doubles play.

This tournament is a highlight for the town as it continues to focus on improving its sports infrastructure. The Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council has recently launched a new strategy to encourage investment in local facilities and is collaborating with the venue operator on a long-term plan for the site. By hosting established international events, the town aims to showcase its facilities, which include a wide array of indoor and outdoor courts, to visitors and local residents alike.

The Lawn Tennis Association supports the tournament, ensuring it meets the required standards, including the presence of an official referee to oversee the matches. Following the success of the 2025 event, which also ran in April, the tournament continues to highlight the area as a destination for competitive tennis.
