A Welwyn Garden City charity that provides uplifting experiences for seriously ill young adults is seeking new volunteers to join its team. The Willow Foundation has opened a new long-term role for a Special Days Assistant Volunteer based at its headquarters on Fretherne Road.
The charity is the only national organisation in the UK dedicated to providing bespoke Special Days for young adults aged 16 to 40 who are living with life-threatening conditions. These conditions include cancer, motor neurone disease, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, and Huntington’s disease. Since its founding in 1999 by former Arsenal goalkeeper and TV presenter Bob Wilson and his wife Megs, the organisation has fulfilled more than 21,500 of these special experiences as a lasting memorial to their daughter, Anna.
The new volunteer role requires a commitment of two to four hours per week. Those who take on the position will support the charity’s team with essential administrative tasks, such as researching and booking outings, preparing detailed itineraries, and proofreading documentation for the people they support. There are currently three spots available for this role.
Residents interested in applying can find more information through GoVolHerts, a free digital platform that connects people with volunteering opportunities across the county. The contact person for this specific opportunity is Jo Tredgett.
