Colourful floral displays are set to return to Welwyn Garden City town centre this spring, as part of a long-standing initiative funded by local businesses. The floral arrangements, which have earned the town regional and national recognition, were announced for their return by the Wonderful Welwyn Garden City Business Improvement District team on 22 March 2026.

The displays are supported by a partnership of town centre businesses that pay a levy to fund projects that enhance the local environment. These efforts have led to consistent success in horticultural competitions, including Gold awards for Overall Best Business Improvement District at the Anglia in Bloom awards in 2019, 2023, and 2024. In 2024, the town also received a Silver Gilt award at the Britain in Bloom competition, where it represented the region against national competition.

The management team, led by Nicky Wolff and Mariana Bitonte, oversee these enhancements as part of their work to support the town centre. Beyond the seasonal planting, this business partnership facilitates various community initiatives, such as festive light displays that have previously been recognised for their quality.

The future of these floral programmes and other town centre projects is currently being determined as local businesses take part in a renewal ballot. The current term for the business group expires on 31 March 2027. If the renewal is not successful, community events, seasonal promotions, and the collective business voice represented by the group would end on that date.
