Hertfordshire County Council has asked for public feedback on plans to stop Sunday opening hours at Welwyn Garden City Central Library in Hertfordshire as part of wider budget changes. The proposal affects six libraries across the county and aims to reduce spending within the local authority.

Hertfordshire County Council launched the feedback period on 6 March 2026 and will keep it open until 5 May 2026. Local residents currently use the facility on Sundays for study space, computer access, and community resources.

These changes are being framed as part of budget adjustments according to information shared by the Hemel Hempstead Community & Conversation group. If the plans are approved, the library would only be available to the public from Monday to Saturday.

The council is asking for views from those who rely on the library outside of standard business hours before a final decision is made. People living in the area have until early May to share their thoughts on how the loss of Sunday services might affect them.
