The New Zion Christian Fellowship is providing weekly emergency food and household essentials to residents in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire. The foodbank is open every Wednesday morning from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at 140 Cole Green Lane. The service aims to help individuals and families who are struggling with rising costs or unexpected financial problems.

Recipients are normally asked to bring a referral voucher to collect items. Residents without a voucher can call the free ‘Help Through Hardship’ assessment helpline on 0808 208 2138 (open Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm), a service run in partnership with Citizens Advice, to receive an assessment and arrangements for emergency support. (New Zion’s guidance also notes that Help Through Hardship advisers do not need to issue a physical voucher for New Zion to provide assistance; agencies can contact the foodbank directly via email.)

The service has seen a significant increase in demand over the 2025–2026 winter period. Local groups and businesses are helping to keep the shelves stocked, including PHARMExcel (a local clinical-trial service company) and local Labour councillors. The foodbank typically distributes roughly 500 items each week, and donation drives organised by community groups and businesses help replenish those supplies.

The New Zion Christian Fellowship has been active in the area since the 1960s and moved to its current location as its community work grew. While the foodbank is run independently by the church, it is frequently listed alongside and coordinates with other local providers — such as Hatfield Foodbank (a Trussell Trust-affiliated provider) and Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council — to help meet needs across the borough.
