Residents in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, can now share their memories of Councillor Roger Trigg in a formal book of condolence. Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council has opened a book of condolence following the death of Councillor Roger Trigg, who died on Friday 23 January 2026.

Flags were flown at half-mast at the council’s Campus East building on 26 January as a mark of respect. Trigg served the borough for more than 25 years, representing the Welwyn East ward from 2016 after having first been elected in 1999, and he served an extended two-year term as Mayor from 2019 to 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He had around a 45-year career in the construction industry before focusing on his council work, according to his profile and local reporting. His colleagues and family have described him as a kind and fair man who was deeply committed to improving local housing and community safety; tributes and statements from family members and fellow councillors have been published by the council and local media.

Residents who wish to pay their respects can leave messages via the council’s online book of condolence at www.welhat.gov.uk/condolences; anyone who wishes to sign a physical book in person should contact the council to confirm arrangements. Further tributes from across the community have been published by the Welwyn Hatfield Times following the news of his passing.
