On 3 March 2026, Wolverhampton Council launched a second enforcement car equipped with cameras to catch drivers parking illegally outside schools in the West Midlands. This new vehicle will double the number of patrols looking for cars stopped in keep-clear zones and at bus stops to help keep children safe during the busy school run.

The silver and white vehicle uses high-definition cameras to automatically record any motorists who park on yellow zig-zag lines or in bus stops. Since the council upgraded its first enforcement car in September 2025, more than 700 fines have been sent to drivers found breaking these rules. These patrols are part of a wider plan to create safer routes for pupils across the city.

Councillor Qaiser Azeem, the cabinet member for city transport, said the extra patrols are about protecting pedestrians and making sure children can be seen clearly when they cross the road. Officials have explained that the system is not fully automated. Instead, every piece of video footage is checked by an independent officer to confirm a rule was broken before any action is taken.

If a driver is caught parking in a restricted area, a fine will be sent to the owner of the vehicle by post within 28 days. The notice will include photographic evidence of the incident. This expansion was funded in the latest local budget to respond to community concerns about dangerous parking during morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups.
