Drivers and bus passengers in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, are being warned of nightly travel delays as essential resurfacing begins on the A4124 Wednesfield Road and the A449 Waterloo Road. According to Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), lane closures and temporary three-way traffic signals will be in place every night from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM starting February 12, 2026, to repair deteriorating road surfaces.

The work is expected to last until the morning of February 20, 2026, and is designed to improve safety on these busy routes near the city centre. The project is part of a £10 million investment by the City of Wolverhampton Council to fix potholes and maintain local highways. Maintenance crews will use heavy machinery to remove the old road surface and relay new tarmac during the overnight hours to reduce the impact on daytime traffic. These areas are primary links for the Ring Road and provide access to the Wolverhampton Railway Station and the Molineux Stadium area.

People using late-night bus services, such as the 59 and 69 routes, are advised to allow more time for their journeys as traffic may move slowly through the work zone. To avoid the bottleneck, motorists are recommended to use alternative routes including the A449 Stafford Road or the A454. The repairs are being completed overnight to ensure the road is fully open for the busiest parts of the day.
