A business improvement district in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, has committed £885,450 over the next five years (2026–2031) specifically for place marketing, promotions and events to bring more people into the city centre through festivals and local activities. Announced as part of the BID’s Term 3 business plan on 4 February 2026, the package is intended to help local shops and restaurants by creating new reasons for families and other visitors to come into the heart of the city.
The money comes from Wolverhampton BID Company Ltd (trading as Enjoy Wolverhampton) and is funded by a mandatory BID levy paid by eligible businesses within the BID zone. After a successful renewal ballot in 2025, around 400 businesses agreed to continue the BID, which will run through 2031.
Enjoy Wolverhampton says it will deliver a programme of seasonal trails and music‑led festivals — examples listed on the BID site include Enjoy Wolverhampton Live, Seaside in the City, Easter trails and family Christmas events — aimed at boosting visitor numbers and dwell time in the city centre. Managing Director Cherry Shine said: “Our commitment is to promote and shine a light on our City Centre… We deliver a programme of quality events throughout the year to give people a reason to visit and stay.”
Nicholas Pitt, Chair of the Wolverhampton BID board and manager of the Mander Centre, called the investment “a strong vote of confidence from the businesses who trade here and who clearly see the city’s potential for change. The investment… will be used to improve our area, making the city centre a better place for customers.”
The five‑year plan places emphasis on place marketing and events spending — including public art trails similar to previous ‘Wolves in Wolves’ attractions — to help maintain footfall while major regeneration and building work continues across the city and to support the day‑to‑day needs of local traders.
