On 9 February 2026 the City of Wolverhampton Council in the West Midlands reported that around 50% of participants in its free stop smoking service have successfully quit smoking. The figure was published as part of a performance update on the Live Well Wolverhampton programme, which provides support through GP surgeries, community pharmacies and eight local family hubs and libraries.

The service is commissioned by the City of Wolverhampton Council and delivered by Central Health Solutions. It offers 12 weeks of tailored behavioural support alongside free quit aids — either nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) or a vape starter pack provided through the government-backed ‘Swap to Stop’ scheme — with weekly check-ins at local community venues, including Central and Warstones libraries.

Councillor Jasbir Jaspal, Cabinet Member for Adults and Wellbeing, said: “Stopping smoking is the best thing you can do for your health and the health of those around you.” The programme was introduced to tackle local health inequalities: Wolverhampton’s adult smoking prevalence has been higher than the national average.

Residents can join the free scheme via a GP referral, by calling or texting ‘QUIT’ to 07378 768046, or by visiting the Live Well Wolverhampton website. The local initiative supports the national Smokefree 2030 ambition to reduce adult smoking prevalence to 5% or less by 2030.
