Wolverhampton is set to rejoin England’s largest community-led festival of history and culture this year, as the city prepares to host Heritage Open Days from 11 to 20 September 2026. This return marks the city’s first participation in the national event in over a decade, following its last involvement in 2013.

The City of Wolverhampton Council is working alongside the Friends of Wolverhampton Archives to build a programme of local events. The organisations are currently calling on community groups, local organisations, and individuals to get involved by hosting their own activities.

The 2026 festival will be centred around the theme of Everyday Histories, which encourages participants to explore the stories of daily working life through the ages. This theme aims to highlight everything from the history of traditional crafts to the routines and rituals that have defined working lives in the community.

All events organised as part of the festival will be free for the public to attend. Anyone interested in hosting an event must register through the national festival website by the final deadline of 13 August 2026. Organisers are encouraged to register as early as possible to take advantage of promotional opportunities.
