Commuters and residents in York can look forward to more frequent bus travel starting Sunday 31 May 2026, as First Bus York increases the frequency of services on two key routes. The changes aim to reduce wait times and improve reliability for passengers travelling into the city centre from several local communities.

For those using Service 10, which connects Poppleton and Stamford Bridge, serving Dunnington along the way, buses will arrive every 30 minutes instead of the current 40-minute intervals. This upgrade will be in place throughout the daytime from Monday to Saturday, while Sunday services will remain at their current frequency.

Service 11, which serves passengers in Bishopthorpe, South Bank, Holgate, and Burnholme, will see its service frequency double. Buses on this route will now run every 30 minutes from Monday through Saturday, a significant increase from the existing hourly trips. These journeys will continue to provide transport to popular locations, including the shops on Bishopthorpe Road and York Racecourse.

All trips on these routes are operated by a 100% electric, zero-emission fleet, which is managed from a solar-powered depot. The service improvements are supported by a combination of commercial investment from the operator and public funding, including contributions from City of York Council for specific journeys. These enhancements are part of the city’s broader efforts to improve public transport, supported by York’s Bus Service Improvement Plan, for which the city secured £17.3 million in government funding for local bus improvements.
