Residents in York should prepare for a shift in weather this week as rain and blustery conditions move into the area following a dry start. According to the Met Office, the city will transition from sunny spells to unsettled weather starting on Tuesday, with heavy showers expected to impact the community throughout the middle of the week.

While Monday 11 May saw sunny intervals and a daytime high of 12°C, the weather pattern is set to change significantly by Wednesday 13 May. Forecasts indicate a high probability of rain, beginning with light showers early Wednesday morning before escalating to heavy showers by midday. The Yorkshire & Humber regional outlook warns that these showers may be frequent and blustery, bringing a risk of thunder on both Wednesday and Thursday.

Conditions throughout the week are expected to remain cool. Temperatures will fluctuate between overnight lows of 2°C and daytime highs reaching approximately 16°C on Tuesday. Residents planning to be outdoors mid-week should prepare for windy conditions, with gusts expected to reach up to 32mph on Tuesday and 30mph on Wednesday.

Although the rain is expected to bring a wet end to the first half of the week, pollen levels are currently rated as low. The Met Office advises that UV levels will reach a moderate rating during midday hours, and residents spending time outside should consider wearing sunscreen when the sun breaks through the clouds.
