Two men have appeared in court charged with robbing an 18-year-old and stealing a gold bracelet in Harrogate.

Ethan Platt, 21, and Simon Winterburn, 56, both appeared at York Magistrates’ Court on Friday 27 March 2026.

North Yorkshire Police said the alleged robbery happened on Ashfield Terrace at around 9pm on Wednesday 25 March 2026. The victim, an 18-year-old, had a gold bracelet stolen during the incident.

Platt faces additional charges of intentional strangulation and assault of an emergency worker. He has been remanded in custody. Winterburn has been released on conditional bail.

Both men are next due to appear at York Crown Court on Monday 4 May 2026. Robbery is classified as an indictable offence, meaning the case will be heard by a judge and jury.

Winterburn was previously convicted for a knife attack that occurred in York on 26 September 2019. At the time, Detective Constable Alastair Foy of York CID described the attack as “savage and cowardly” after Winterburn slashed a victim’s face with a weapon.

North Yorkshire Police confirmed they are investigating the incident.
