The York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity is inviting the local community to host tea parties to raise funds for hospital wards and departments as part of the national NHS Big Tea campaign. The event will take place from Monday 6 July to Friday 10 July 2026, coinciding with the birthday of the National Health Service.

The initiative is a nationwide effort coordinated by NHS Charities Together, which represents more than 230 charity organisations across the country. Supporters are encouraged to bake cakes and decorate their gatherings with bunting to help raise money for the York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This trust provides essential care for residents in York, Scarborough, Selby, Malton, Bridlington, and St Monica’s hospitals, as well as various community services.

This year’s event carries additional significance as the York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity celebrates its 30th anniversary. To mark the occasion and celebrate the staff, the charity is also bringing back its Bake Off competition for a second year, where hospital employees can showcase their baking skills for the chance to win a hamper prize.

Residents, local businesses, schools, and community groups interested in getting involved can contact Becky White, the charity’s community fundraiser, for more information. She can be reached via email at [email protected] or by phone at 01904 724521.
