The York Environment Festival is inviting community groups, schools, businesses, and local organisations to contribute to its seventh year of celebrations in York. Organisers are opening the call for event submissions on 1 May 2026, marking the start of preparations for a programme that will run from 3 October to 1 November 2026.

The festival, which was first established in 2020 by the York Environment Forum as a one-week awareness event, has grown into a month-long showcase of the city’s environmental efforts. Following a 2025 programme that featured over 60 events, York CVS is now encouraging local participants to help build the schedule for the upcoming autumn.

For the 2026 festival, organisers have chosen a theme focused on the future and the potential for younger generations to drive change. This theme is inspired by the Seventh Generation Principle, which encourages people to consider the long-term impact of their actions on future generations. The festival is looking for any events that explore the local environment, the climate crisis, or biodiversity, all of which must be free for the public to attend.

The event has seen significant engagement in previous years, drawing more than 3,000 participants to over 100 events in 2024. Beyond event hosting, the festival is also recruiting volunteers for various support roles, including website assistance, communications, fundraising, outreach, and general coordination.

Interested groups can find more information about submitting an event or volunteering by visiting the official York Environment Festival website.
