York Residents Face Sharp Cold Snap and Possible Snow

The Met Office has issued an updated forecast for York, North Yorkshire, showing a sharp drop in temperatures and possible snow this week. Starting from Monday 23 March 2026, conditions in the city will shift from cloudy skies and highs of 13°C to much colder weather with strong winds by Thursday.

On Tuesday 24 March 2026, the city is expected to see heavy rain with a high of 14°C before temperatures fall to a low of 3°C overnight. By Wednesday 25 March 2026, daytime highs will drop to 9°C, and wind gusts of up to 36mph will make it feel significantly colder as overnight temperatures hit 0°C.

Thursday 26 March 2026 is forecast to be the coldest day of the week, with a maximum temperature of 7°C that will feel like -4°C due to the wind. There is a 10 per cent chance of wintry showers or snow early that morning, and the Yorkshire & Humber regional forecasting team expects frost as overnight temperatures stay low.
