Parents and carers in York can attend three free workshops this month covering emotional regulation, post-16 pathways, and self-esteem. The sessions run through SEND Central, the city’s dedicated hub for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

The first workshop on understanding emotional regulation takes place on 8 July from 10.00am to 11.30am. A session on post-16 education and employment pathways follows on 10 July from 11.00am to midday, and a workshop on self-esteem is set for 15 July from 10.00am to 11.30am. No advance booking is needed for any of the events.

SEND Central opened in September 2025 on the Clifton Green Primary School site. Cllr Bob Webb, the council’s Executive Member for Children, Young People and Education, called the hub “such an important milestone for the city” and stressed it welcomes families whether a child has an EHCP or no formal diagnosis at all. The Think Together workshops are delivered by the Specialist Autism Teaching Team, and the hub’s wider programme includes post-16 support through partner organisation YIKS.

The hub is open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 5.00pm. Parents can also drop in to speak with a Parent Carer Forum Navigator between 9.30am and 4.00pm daily for advice and information from staff with their own lived experience of SEND.
