York Theatre Royal has announced a new lineup of four shows coming to the venue later in 2026. Tickets for the general public go on sale at 1pm on 27 April, while members were able to book their seats from 22 April.
The upcoming programme kicks off in July with two distinct events. On 17 July, local Michelin-starred chef Tommy Banks will present his first-ever stage show, Spinning Plates: LIVE!. The production uses storytelling and immersive cinema to share the realities of the hospitality industry, including the challenges of rising costs and business closures. The following day, on 18 July, the theatre will host Dinosaur Adventure Live: Danger on T-Rex Mountain, an interactive family show featuring animatronic dinosaurs and a post-show meet-and-greet opportunity.
In the autumn, the venue will host a play exploring the life of a music icon. From 10-12 September, the stage will feature Wilko: Love And Death And Rock ‘N’ Roll. The production follows the story of the late Dr Feelgood guitarist Wilko Johnson, who became famous for his recovery after being diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2012.
The theatre’s 2026 series concludes with comedy, as Seann Walsh returns to the venue on 6 November with his new show, This Is Torture. The performance is part of a wider UK tour for the comedian.
Residents interested in priority access and ticket discounts for these shows may consider membership, which costs £75 per year. Benefits include priority booking for shows, as well as savings on tickets and at the on-site cafe and bar. The theatre, located at St Leonard’s Place, has been a central part of the city since 1744.
